Medallion Stamp Guarantee.

Do you wish to sell shares in a company listed in the United States of America? If you are not an American Citizen you will almost certainly need a Medallion Stamp Guarantee?

In the United States, the Signature Guarantee is used the transfer of securities. It is a guarantee by the transferring financial institution that the signature is genuine and the financial institution accepts liability for any forgery. Signature guarantees protect shareholders by preventing unauthorised transfers and possible investor losses. They also limit the liability of the transfer agent who accepts the certificates

After the shocking events of 9/11 the medallion stamp guarantee was upgraded to the barcoded version to help prevent cross border fraud. The barcoded version is now a statutory requirement in the United States of America if you wish to transfer stocks, shares and bank account funds.

This is also applicable if you are an executor of a persons estate who had stocks and shares in the USA. In order to deal with them, whether it be to sell or transfer to a beneficiary you will need the stock transfer forms stamping with the barcoded guarantee. If you are an executor of an estate you will of course also need a valid grant of probate or letter of administration which we can also help you with.
